Bollywood at School - Culturally responsive practice.
Having a responsibility for Culturally responsive practice at school, I responded to requests from students to learn Bollywood dancing. Many of our Fijian Indian students have experienced this dance as part of their culture back in Fiji. Dee, from our community, came in and ran two terms of sessions. A little interrupted by Covid, but we hope to perform in the future. (Note- we already regularly learn and perform Tongan and Samoan dance and haka) What this taught me: After running these workshops, some of my Indian and Fijian Indian student had the confidence to began speaking Hindi in the classroom.
