DFI Day 3 -Media

This week's focus has been Create & media. Dorothy Burt showed us this excerpt from a Heart of the Matter film. A great reminder create is not just digital.

Here is a document that was a collaboration for Manaiakalani of what create can look like.               Exploring Create in the Manaiakalani Programme

One thing I created today..

Using Google Slides for 'Pick a path'

I would be very keen for my students to use this to create their own pick a path stories as well as quizzes to show what they have learned and to share their learning with others. This is moving to 'redefinition' of learning tasks in the SAMMR model. Here is the beginnings of my Upstander -bystander quiz/ pick a path slideshow. It is a work in progress, so may change. And as I have learned, as it is embedded, it will update as I add slides. This is a good way for students to be ablke to publish their work on their blog - but continue to work on it at the same time. This is a reminder that student work does not need to be fully completed, and their blog introduction does state that to readers.

Reflections for my teaching..
I intend to examine the document 'Exploring create' mentioned above. Using this and my understanding of the SAMR model, I want to take some 'thinking' time to plan for students to use create tools that do the following:
  • Allow students to show what they know in attractive ways
  • Allow students to demonstrate their cultural capital and prior knowledge
  • Engage and activate students to think more deeply about their learning
  • Reward students for their resilience and perseverance
  • Turn the students into teachers of others.

  1. Talofa Jane, thanks for sharing! I love your 'Pick a path' slide and will be very interested to see how this develops across the school. You have set yourself 5 lofty create goals, I will follow with interest.
